QUICK LINKS

Form
Last season, Blackpool went from being Championship relegation fodder to unlikely play-off winners within the space of just a few months. When you consider that Blackpool had the second lowest turnover in the Championship at just £7m, this makes this feat seem all the more astonishing. Whether they can carry their winning run into the Premier League is debatable, however, as their squad is by far the weakest in the league. Blackpool fans will be hoping that their eccentric manager Ian Holloway can work another miracle this season.

Star Players
Welsh international midfielder David Vaughan has been with the club for two years now, and was key to their success in the Championship last term. If he and record signing Charlie Adam can steer clear of injury, they could prove to be a strong combination in the Blackpool midfield this season.

His fellow countryman, Stephen Crainey, was a rock in defence last season, and Holloway will be hoping for more of the same this time round. He will be joined in defence by former Manchester United trainee Craig Cathcart, a 21 year old of whom great things are expected.

Up front, Holloway can choose between Brett Ormerod, Jason Euell, and Marlon Harewood, all of whom have top flight experience. Whether they can unlock tight Premier League defences is another matter, but if one of them has a run of good form then they might be in with a shout.

The Gaffer
With his bizarre quips and unlikely metaphors, Ian Holloway is without doubt the most eccentric manager working in the Premier League. His inspirational and motivational skills are less well known, but Blackpool’s unlikely ascent to the top flight has brought these into sharp focus recently. Blackpool fans will be hoping that he doesn’t jump ship as soon as a better offer comes his way.

The Outlook
With arguably the weakest squad in the league, Blackpool have been widely expected to finish 20th this season. However, if they can get a bit of momentum going, and pull off a few upsets, then they might be able to scrape into lower mid-table come the end of the season. A lot depends on whether Ian Holloway sticks around as manager, and whether their best players can stay fit and in form.
