QUICK LINKS

Form
Could this finally be it? Spurs fans dogged by persistent accusations of glorified self-worth must be wondering (justifiably for a change) if their self-proclaimed ‘big club’ could actually be on the verge of doing something to warrant the title. Having assembled a strong, seemingly well drilled squad and in the process cracked the top 4 and (probably) a place in the Champions League, Spurs have a genuine shot at bringing the glory glory days back to the Lane.
Star Players
In Luka Modric Spurs have the sort of swivel-hipped, ball paying midfielder the fans have long craved whilst having to make do with the more pragmatic talents of Jason Dozzell and Oyvind Leonhardsen. Occasionally reminiscent of Johan Cruyff in his pomp, Modric often plays a slightly more withdrawn role, compensating for his slight frame with deft close control and sharp reactions.
After a slow, injury hampered start to his Spurs career Gareth Bale began to make good on his immense potential during the second half of last season. The strapping Welshman’s marauding runs down the left are the stuff of full back’s nightmares and even at just 21 Bale is exhibiting all the attributes - speed, strength and dribbling skills as well as an educated left peg –  of a potentially world class overlapping left back.
The Gaffer
Any lingering tax wrangles and troubling suspicions that his Del Boy antics might one day come back to haunt him have been swiftly forgotten by Spurs fans who can hardly believe that their terminally underachieving team are finally getting somewhere.
‘Arry’s not really done anything revolutionary but his common sense approach and man management skills seem to have coaxed the best out of his team. There’s also a sense of settled continuity about Spurs, which is particularly remarkable given Redknapp’s well documented wheeler-dealer approach to management. Thus far the Premier League’s answer to David Dickinson has limited himself to just one pre-season signing.
The Outlook
Most Spurs fans would probably be content with another top four finish. In truth, claims that they should be considered as potential challengers for the title are probably a tad fanciful. Still, there’s plenty of opportunity to build upon last season by confirming their Champions League credentials and proving that their apparent breakthrough wasn’t another false dawn. This could well be a make or break season for the Lillywhites.
